Nach Ruben Östlund, machen wir am Dienstag mit einem anderen schwedischen Regisseur weiter: Jesper Ganslandt.

Ich habe den Film noch nicht gesehen. Alles was ich dazu bis jetzt gelesen habe beschränkt sich auf eine sehr knappe Inhaltsangabe und die Informtion, dass Ganslandt seinem Hauptdarsteller, ganz in der Tradition von Robert Bresson, den gesamten Dreh über das Drehbuch nicht zu lesen gab.
Memorable. There’s a dangerous word in a review. But it is exactly that – The Ape is a sustained study in alienation, guilt, male rage and psychological fracture (with a whiff of misogyny). Though Ganslandt is reported to have drawn on Mike Leigh’s work, this piece has its roots deeply embedded in Dostoyevsky, Edvard Munch, Ibsen and Strindberg, not to mention Ingmar Bergman. Take a male character from a Munch painting, one of the lesser known ones, like ‘Golgotha‘ (1900) or ‘Evening on Karl Johan Street’ (1893), and imagine that man now walking around modern Stockholm. Follow him with a steady-cam, and you get The Ape. (Ambrose Hogan)
